Columbia Birth Course
Walk into your birth prepared, confident, and connected.
The Columbia Birth Course is a one-day, immersive childbirth education experience designed to give you and your partner the knowledge, tools, and confidence to approach birth with calm and clarity.
What’s Different About This Birth Class
The course is designed for couples who want more than information. It's for the ones who want to feel ready — in their bodies, in their partnership, and in their ability to trust the process.
Most childbirth education covers the basics: what to expect, when to go to the hospital, how to fill out your paperwork, etc. The Columbia Birth Course goes further. Over five hours, you'll explore the physical, mental, and emotional dimensions of birth together with your partner, guided by three experienced practitioners who bring clinical expertise, lived experience, and genuine care to every session.
What the Course Covers:
Trust in your body and the process — understanding how birth works physiologically so you can move with it rather than against it
Breathing, movement, and visualization techniques — practical tools for managing intensity and staying grounded during labor
Pushing positions and birth mechanics — hands-on preparation for labor positions that give you options and keep you in control
Partner preparation — specific, practiced ways your partner can support you through every stage of labor and delivery

Birth Class FAQ
-
The Columbia Birth Course is designed for expectant couples in their second or third trimester who want thorough, thoughtful preparation for birth. Whether this is your first baby or you're hoping for a different experience than a previous birth, the course meets you where you are.
-
Yes — the course is designed as a couple's experience. Your partner's preparation is a core part of the curriculum, and their role in your birth is something you'll practice together during the class.
-
Hospital birth classes are designed to be broadly accessible and tend to cover logistics and basic expectations. The Columbia Birth Course is smaller, more immersive, and goes much deeper — into birth mechanics, practical positions, breathing and visualization techniques, and the emotional and relational dimensions of birth. It's also taught by three practitioners with clinical and hands-on expertise rather than a general overview format.
-
Comfortable clothing you can move in, a water bottle, and any snacks you'd like. Everything you need for the course will be provided. More detailed preparation information will be sent after you register.
-
We recommend attending the course by 36 weeks at the latest so you have time to practice what you've learned before your birth. If you have questions about timing, reach out before booking and we'll help you figure out the best date.
